- And…that’s it – An AtoZ Rounup
(author’s note – I appreciate that N for November should actually be ‘N for Nanowrimo’ but, I’m no longer part of Nanowrimo, and I know a lot of people that have been hurt, upset or otherwise pushed to places they’re not happy with. There are currently no Municipal Liasons that I know of. I had stepped down before November of last year, offering to stay on if someone picked up and learned with me, but no one did – and now… I understand that bad things have happened over on the forum, I also know that the handling of the situation has been less than ideal. But, that’s not what inspires me to write. Injustice, of course, I’ll write and speak out about, but in the context of this post, I’m deliberately taking a step back from what I am in charge of in November to look at what I get out of it. I’m not belittling or otherwise ignoring the myriad of current issues they’re working through, but…I have nothing to add to the conversation around that, other than my heartfelt wishes that it’s resolved and that the people impacted by it are treated with respect, dignity, and most of all, care).
N is for November. November is my birth month so, it’s pretty cool anyway, but November is also the one month (bar April, April now gives November a run for it’s money thanks to the AtoZ) that I write A LOT.
And by A LOT I mean I’m usually done with the ‘you won!’ goal for Nanowrimo by Day 7, if I’m taking it at a slow pace. I’ve never quite hit the half a million that I set myself for my 10th year. This year, I did start 20 projects. Most of them ended up being outlines, but, I did end up writing substantially more than the goal for November. It was like pulling teeth. Writing isn’t always that much of a problem normally for me – I don’t claim never to get writing block, but, I can always get something on paper. November though. The only way I can really describe it is being really stiff, not warmed up and trying to do two hours of running. Then another two hours. Then, another two. Every day.
It can be done, but you’re gonna hurt yourself. Not in a good, ‘this will make me stronger way’ either. I’ll talk about that tomorrow in O for Ordinary
Whether we know what’s wrong with me or not, I was affected by what happened in October.
But, back to the point. I get joyfully exuberant around November, because, honestly, there’s so much good in my life that came out of November. I mean, heck, there’s even technically a love story because of November. I wrote Glass Block, and Black Monday and a dozen other books that have gone on to be people’s favorites.
This year will hopefully be no different. I’m going to try and go out for coffee, with my Mac, and write. Because I love that I can do that.
