Writing 101

I’m a writer.
I’ve been a writer for close to 28 years – since I was four in fact.
I started off in fan fiction – writing stories based on the cartoons and programmes I watched, and the books I read. And then I moved to my own stuff – my first novel was called ‘Ascendant’ – and was the story of a spaceship which sat on the junction to the ends of everything. At 13, I was even really into exploring environments, and apparently, hard sci-fi because I wrote quite a detailed explanation of the convergence between the drive and the ‘problems’ people were seeing.
I’ve gone on to outline 50 novels, a couple of hundred short stories, more blog posts and articles than I can count and more.  I love writing.  Which is why, though this is meant to be a personal blog, I’ll always talk writing here.

In the next few weeks, I’m going to try to tackle some of the biggies, the difference between the ‘I’ in writing and the person writing it, why ‘adult material’ isn’t necessarily ‘adult’ content, and why writing under pen names isn’t cowardice.  If you’ve got any other stuff you’d like me to tackle, I’d love to hear about it.

I was wondering if you’ve published anything or have any plans to. If so, maybe cover some of the difficulties of publishing.

    • Kai

Been published and self published, but I don’t know, really, what I can say about that – it’s one area where I’m still learning – one of the biggest things that I’m seeing in this is that there’s no one ‘true’ way to get published and the industry is moving *so* fast, which is why blogging is perfect to cover it.
That said, I’ve always got something to say about the industry 😉

I echo -10’s comment. I am actually in the process of finding a way to publish a cookbook my mother wrote and would love insights.

I can do a specific post about publishing options if you like, and get more in depth based on questions?

I am very excited about the upcoming writing topics!

      Thank you!

P is for Psychosis #realmentalhealth #mondayblogs #nomorestigma

This is one of my harder blog posts to write, because though I talk – a lot – about the impact my mental health has on my day to day life, and has done for a while, I’m pretty sure that this is the bit no one really understands, causes the most…misunderstanding and I hope, because I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, they can’t relate to. If you didn’t know that psychosis was a feature of my mental health diagnosis, or didn’t understand if you’d heard it mentioned before now, please…don’t start changing your opinion of me. That’s the biggest reason those of us with serious mental health issues aren’t as open as society needs. Because we lose people.
